Bladen County is located in the southeastern section of North Carolina, approximately one hour from the Atlantic Ocean and 1½ hours from Raleigh.  The area is located in the coastal plains and is mostly flat terrain and rural.  Elizabethtown, the county seat, has a population of 4,000.
